US Visa Application and Travel Requirements
Types of US Visa
Do you need to Apply for a US Visa? If you are a citizen of the following countries, you can travel to the United States for temporary stays of 90 days or less under Visa Waiver Program (VWP). These countries can travel without a visa if they travel for tourism and business purposes.
Andorra, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Brunei, Chile, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Irelnd, Italy, Japan, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Monaco, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Portugal, San Marino, Singapore, Slovakia, Slovenia, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan, United Kingdom.
All travellers from the above-mentioned coutries must have a valid The Electronic System for Travel Authorization (ESTA) or an approved travel authorization and meet all the requirements. Traveller citizens may still apply for a Visitor (B) Visa if they prefer to have a visa in their passport.
- Tourist or Business Visa and Reqirements
Visitor visas are nonimmigrant visas for persons who want to enter the United States temporarily for business (visa category B-1), for tourism (visa category B-2). A citizen of a foreign country who wishes to enter the United States must first obtain a visa. Here are the two types of visas under Tourist or Business Visa and the list of permitted activities.
- B1-for Business
Consult with business associates, attend a scientific, educational, professional, or business convention or conference,settle an estate and negotiate a contract.
- B2-for Pleasure or Medical Treatment
This includes tourism, visiting friends and family, medical treatment, social or service activities, enrollment in a short recreational course of study, not for credit toward a degree.
Required Documentation
Prepare the following required documents before applying for US Visa and during your interview:
- Original Passport Your passport must be valid for at least six months beyond your period of stay in the United States (citizens of the countries listed are exempt)
- Nonimmigrant Visa Application DS160 US Visa application confirmation page.
- Photo Upload your 2x2 photo ID while completing the online form DS-160.
- Proof of Visa Fee Payment Safeguard the original receipt as you may be asked to present it. Visa Application fee is non-refundable and non-tranfearable to another person. Applicants will receive a receipt after paying the application fee (valid for one year from the date of payment).
- Printout of US Interview Appointment Letter
Supporting documents for tourism and pleasure
- Travel Itinerary
- Proof of funds (bank statement, any other proof of cash)
- If employed: Certificate of Employment, Tax documents, leave form
- If self-employed: proof of business ownership or business documents
Supporting documents for visiting children, family, attending events, etc.
- Letter of invitation from children or relatives
- Proof of event, invitation card, etc
Supporting documents for medical treatement

Note: The above list is the most common documents requested by immigration officers during visa interview.
- K-1 Nonimmigrant Visa and Requirements
The K-1 visa permits the foreign-citizen fiancé(e) to travel to the United States and marry his or her U.S. citizen sponsor within 90 days of arrival.
